Nyokabi Kariũki's debut full length album is a powerful meditation on the artist's experience with long-COVID in 2021. Across 6 tracks, she contends with the trauma of illness that remains, both in the physical places that it existed, and in the mind; but also mentions, "the music is not only about the pain and the weight accompanied with being sick; but it is about the appreciation of the body, and how it understands hope and patience before we ourselves believe it."
Whilst field recordings were very much at the centre of her first record, FEELING BODY sees Nyokabi exploring her voice more than ever before, utilising her full vocal range as well as numerous automations, spoken word recordings, and electronic production. Nyokabi also invited two NYC-based collaborators whose sounds are heard throughout the album: violinist Yaz Lancaster and trumpet player Michael Denis Ó Callaghan.
FEELING BODY will be released on cassette and digitally March 3, 2023
