About the event (from the website):
PRESENTED BY THE SUBSTATION AND ROOM40
Keiji Haino (JP)
Carl Stone (US/JP)
Nyokabi Kariuki (KE)
Keiji Haino is one of the most iconic musicians of the modern age. With five decades of music making behind him, he continues to push the boundaries of sound and song, fuelled by his utterly profound and effectual performances that span improvisation, dark blues, noise and psychedelic music. This is a rare glimpse of a truly legendary figure.
Acclaimed American artist Carl Stone has similarly set the stage for generations of electronic musicians fascinated with the potentials of sampling, modulation and transformation made possible by computer based applications. His music subsumes the melodic heart used in popular musics and reworks it into a rhythmic and textured sound mass that brings to mind minimalist traditions.
Kenyan sound artist Nyokabi Kariuki is responsible for a growing body of work that focused around the possibilities of voice, electronics and contemporary composition. She is part of an emergent generation of eclectic sound explorers, expanding pathways into zones of experimental and contemporary sonic traditions.
